Douglas Morrione (B.A., Colby College, M.A., The Newschool for Social Research) is an award-winning filmmaker and television producer and director, currently based in Dubai, where he has recently written You're In The Light: A Mostly Maine Memoir, some cutting room floor chapters from which, in addition to other stories, can be found on this Medium page.

You're In The Light — Synopsis

Featuring sheep wrangling, vintage sports car restoration, homemade psychotherapy, deranged piano lessons and lawless BB-gun battles, You're in the Light, chronicles the difficult, comical, and at times absurd adventures of a fish-out-of-water family attempting to navigate life and work in rural Maine.

The story also follows the family’s two cross-country moves to California, where, having grown up in a homogenous environment in the whitest state in the union, Doug and his brother collide with Mexican and African-American culture, surfers, goths, abalone divers and homeless people.

An experience attending Phillips Exeter Academy closes the book, as the author struggles to assimilate into a world of the elite, where rules he can’t understand and fails to follow eventually lead to his unraveling. But, in the end, his mother, never one to shy away from a do-it-yourself project, finds a way to put him back together.

__________________________________________________________________ Doug's film and television production work has been broadcast internationally on major networks, including HBO, ESPN, NBC, and PBS for decades, and his documentaries are in worldwide distribution. Doug also served on the faculty of media studies programs in Manhattan—particularly courses in editing for film and documentary production.

His most recent film, Fairways to Happiness, followed experts and expats from across the globe as they guided viewers on the complex journey to contentment. Inspired by his relocation to the UAE—the first country to appoint a federal minister of happiness—Douglas interviewed expats and UAE nationals about what it takes to lead a more content, meaningful and satisfying life.

Fairways to Happiness follows the director's non-fiction film about American cowboys and the history of the West: Everything in the Song is True, which opened to critical acclaim on the international festival circut, garnering awards for Best Documentary (Chicago), People’s Choice (Rockport), and the World Cinematography Award from the Amsterdam Film Festival.

Douglas moved from New York to Dubai with his wife in 2014 and soon welcomed their first daughter, followed by their second daughter, both born in the UAE. His Dubai-based production company, Route 201 Media, keeps Doug busy traveling the world when he's not at home struggling happily to write the next story.
